High cost of gasoline: price gouging, or just another symptom of government interference?
Among recent condemnations of ‘big business’ in Canada, the biggest has to be the charges leveled against oil companies and the exorbitant profits they make at ‘our expense.’ So much so that David Holcberg (of ARI) took the time to pen a letter to the editor of our very own National Post regarding allegations of price gouging made against oil companies by the New Democrats’ Party of Canada (http://www.aynrand.org/site/R?i=Om8f50DVvapqaKfoaR-Fmg).
The following letter, entitled “High Gas Prices the Result of Government Meddling” was published in a Colorado newspaper yesterday and mentions an ‘excess profits tax’ levied on oil companies during the 1980s. It would interest me to know whether a similar measure was ever taken by the Canadian government…
